Evolution of www.RohitGambhir.com
With the evolution of Web 2.0 I realized that had so many varied set of things scattered on the internet eg my profiles on LinkedIn,Orkut etc,my blogs, pictures, contact and other information about my likes and dislikes.I was gasping for a binder where I could keep all these things together and a one-stop solution where I can keep everything about myself and share it with my friends and family.
Suddenly my wife started working on the Saturdays( gasp !!) and I found that I have 2 hours per week to do something different(other than baby sitting of course) so I explored the idea of having a page for myself. ( If you are reading this and you know my wife and my boss, please dont tell them, either my boss would start making me work on Saturdays or my wife would think that I belive that keeping away from her on Saturdays makes me do more creative and do more value added work)
I start exploring sites like GeoCities,Googlepages,Yahoo 360,BlogSpot etc. Finally decided to go by Googlepages. It was more cleaner, less advertisement and of course Google is considered to be a synonym to innovativeness and creativity. I launched the first version of my webpage which was --> http://rohitgambhir.googlepages.com . I also configured this page with Google Analytics(http://analytics.google.com ) to start getting analytical reports about the people visiting my page. I also liked this with my Orkut,LinkedIn and Yahoo 360 profile.Suddenly I realized that I was getting 5-6 page hits per day with people around the globe hitting it (dont compare it with google.com or msn.com) but I thought that was quite a decent number for a personal webpage.
Thats when I realized, why not have something more cleaner and something without advertisements. This is when I bought the domain www.rohitgambhir.com and also started playing with HTML and this is how the current version of Rohit Gambhir's Webpage evolved. It costs me around 35 dollars a year but I think its worth it.I am not sure where it would evolve to but having it there makes me feel good and by the way the "shaking hands" image is a symbol to welcome you to my page.
Thanks for visiting it and come back again.I would try to keep it updated at a regular intervals.
Moral of the Story(Confidential Learning) : "If you want to have a webpage of yourselves, find a six-day-work-week job for your wife."
